We were lucky enough to spend two months, this winter in Vilamoura, Portugal. Before we left, some friends said things like, that’s a long time, what will you do all day? They clearly don’t know us.
Loretta and I love to visit new places, to sit and watch the world go by, to walk for miles, to sit at pavement cafes drinking local beers and wines, to visit art galleries and museums and other places of interest, to read and to paint.
I’m not the sort of rtist who spends every waking moment with a sketchbook in their hands, but I did take watercolours, brushes, pencils, pens, sponges and paper and, of course, a camera and imagination.
The Algarve is stunning and it was very quiet, whilst we were there – apart from the wonderful fireworks on New Years Eve. We took ourselves off to Seville for a few days and enjoyed the sights and sounds of that amazing city, including art galleries and beautiful architecture.
Below are some of the watercolours, I produced during our time in Portugal. They are very traditional efforts, but I hope to develop them into something more personal and expressive, in time. Watch this space.
